Future Blazer

Greer Preparatory Academy is a new charter school that opened in the 2025–26 school year with an inaugural class of 100 sixth-grade students and 50 seventh-grade students. It was temporarily housed at Greer Middle College Charter High School. In the summer of 2026, we moved to our permanent facility at 4520 Locust Hill Road, now serving 400 students grades 3-5 and 400 students in grades 6-8.

Our mission is to produce well-rounded students through a proven Classical Instructional Model paired with the Core Knowledge curriculum—a rigorous, sequential approach used by some of the highest-achieving charter schools in the nation. By combining a strong academic foundation with character-building, collaborative learning experiences, as we prepare students to think critically, to communicate effectively, and to take ownership of their own growth as they transition toward high school.

GPA is built around a small learning community model, giving students a close-knit environment where they can develop responsibility for their own learning while working closely with dedicated teachers and highly engaged families. We partner with parents through frequent communication and individualized academic goal-setting for every student, ensuring support at every step. As we grow—welcoming additional grade levels and a permanent campus in the years ahead—GPA remains committed to serving the Greer, Taylors, Travelers Rest, and Greenville communities with a distinctive, high-quality educational choice grounded in academic excellence and character development.

Enrollment FAQs

Admission

When will I apply for my student to enter the lottery for GPA?

The Spring before your student enters the 3rd grade. All other grade levels will have open applications after the lottery but students will be added to the bottom of the waitlist.

If my child gets into GPA, will my other child be accepted into GMC/GPA?

If you have a child get into either GPA or GMC, the sibling would be moved to the top of the waitlist for their specific grade at either GPA or GMC. Once a spot becomes available, your student would be called.

How many students will GPA be accepting in grades 3-8?

GPA will have a total of 750-800 students

If a student graduates GPA will they be automatically accepted into GMC?

Yes, students who attend GPA and complete 8th grade will automatically have a spot at GMC.

If we currently have a student enrolled in GPA/GMC do we have to enter the lottery for other siblings?

You will have to apply but the sibling will automatically have a seat before the lottery occurs.

If I have students at both GPA and GMC, will my parent service hours count for both schools?

Yes, service hours can be counted towards both schools but in doing so you will still need to complete 36 hours of service to fulfill GMC’s requirements.

Curriculum

Will you accommodate students with 504/IEP accommodations?

Yes, we will have students with accommodations. We have a fabulous SPED program at GMC that we will mirror at GPA.

Will there be a Challenge program (or similar) for students identified as gifted and talented by the district?

Yes, we will have a program for students identified as gifted and talented.

Will there be an opportunity for students to earn high school credit while attending GPA?

Yes, students will be able to enroll in high school credit courses with the mastery learning (have to earn an 80 to receive credit) standards.

What curriculum will be used at GPA and will students who transfer from a Greenville County School have a hard time transitioning to it?

GPA will be using Core Knowledge Curriculum throughout all grade levels. Students should not have a problem transitioning to the curriculum at GPA. Our teachers will be thoroughly trained in these curriculums and will always be willing to help students. Find out more about these curriculums through the links on the GPA website

Daily Routines

What will the school day look like?

Students will begin class at 7:45am and will be dismissed at 2:15pm. Grades 6-8 will have 50 minutes to 1 hour 20 mins long depending on the course.

Will grades 3-5 be intermixed with grades 6-8?

The bottom level of GPA will be grades 3-5 while the upstairs will be grades 6-8. At drop off in the mornings, grades 3-5 will have a different entrance than grades 6-8. They will have a shared lunchroom and gym but classes will be separated by grades.

Will GPA have a working lunchroom or have vendor lunch like GMC?

We will be mirroring our vendor lunch program at GPA. Students will have the option to order lunch from a vendor, bring their lunch, or buy al la carte items. We try to keep our vendor lunch options below $5.

Will there be an after school program?

We have an Extended Day Program. Students should be picked up by 5:30pm (M-Th), 5:00 (F).

Will middle school students (sixth through eighth grades) have lockers?

Middle school students will not have lockers. The classroom furniture will allow students to store their backpacks under their seats/desks.

Sports

Which extracurricular sports are available to students?

Fall sports include cross country (boys and girls) and volleyball (girls). Both boys and girls have winter basketball. Spring sports are soccer (boys and girls) and track (boys and girls). (Note: spring sports are limited to GMC Junior Varsity openings.)

Is a football program a possibility?

At this point and time no but students are eligible to play a sport at their zoned school if GPA or GMC does not offer that sport.
