Laura Giacalone is a lifelong educator with a passion for helping children develop a love of learning and literacy. Originally from Columbia, South Carolina, she moved to Greenville in 1998 after earning her bachelor's degree in Elementary and Special Education from Presbyterian College in 1994. She later earned a Master of Education with a concentration in Literacy from Converse College, further strengthening her commitment to student success.

Laura is married to Matthew Giacalone, a science teacher at Charles Townes Center in Greenville. Together, they have built a home centered on education, family, and community. With four children—a 25-year-old son, a 23-year-old daughter, a 16-year-old daughter, and a 14-year-old daughter—learning and education are frequent topics of conversation and a shared passion in their household.

The Giacalone family lives in downtown Greenville, where they enjoy spending time at Falls Park, exploring the city's vibrant restaurant scene, and taking advantage of everything the community has to offer. Their favorite getaway is Pawleys Island, South Carolina, where they enjoy relaxing together and creating lasting family memories.
